The Vivekanand Institute of Technology was established with the aim of creating an educational institute in Pune, that will impart education that is at par with the best in India and abroad too. Apart from academic excellence, which is, of course, one of the prime objectives, emphasis is also laid on overall individual growth and development, and on making a meaningful contribution to the social fabric that the individual is part of.
Over the past decade, the institute has made substantial progress and has even started two postgraduate courses (Urban Design & Landscape Architecture.
I am glad to mention that our students are making their mark on various platforms, national & international competitions and have also been selected in best of the post graduate institutes for further education.
All this is possible only due to excellent team of faculty members who works dedicatedly for the betterment of the institute. I wish our administration, faculty and students a very bright future.

Architecture touches our lives in many ways, some direct and some subtle. Along with food and clothing,shelter has always been a basic human need. Man has built shelters to meet his needs which go beyond the mere physical requirements to the more sentimental and emotional needs. He has built for safety and comfort, for pride and joy, for authority and for celebration; for education, commerce, defense, in fact the complexity of factors increases with every passing day. The study of Architecture would be an intense and constant quest into the workings of this phenomenon.
The modern architect is generally perceived to be involved in the creation of various forms of shelters, like bungalows, apartments, townships,. One could be planning ahead for the kind of shelters we will need in the future, or looking back in the past to learn from our achievements as well as mistakes. But that’s not all! With a firm foundation in aesthetic sensitivity, logical thinking, empathy with the world around us and scientific training which you will get in our school, you will be well-prepared for not only the challenging field of architecture but diverse disciplines also such as product design, fashion design, film and television, social work, ecology and management, to name only a few. You could be a man of action, a leader of team or you could be a visionary. That is going to be your destination for which both of us would be striving for.
From the intricacy of designing a simple door knob to the planning of a whole new town, the architects’ range is breathtaking, the variety bewildering. You stand today at the threshold of this vast field of opportunity stretching as far as the mind can imagine. The Institute is deeply rooted in the social aspect of professional training and hence has aptly adopted the tagline “ we believe in creating sensitive and socially conscious architects who can contribute in shaping our built environment”.
At PVPCoA, we strive to develop the overall personality of the student, irrespective of his / her academic background, cultural upbringing or even social stratification. Each and every student is precious to us and along with academic growth, personality development is also taken care of.
Our academics is organised into four streams of knowledge as follows:
Design and Theory – This stream aims to assist students in developing the skill of synthesizing aspects related to reading of place, people and time; and proposing an appropriate spatial expression, which we call architecture. By continuous inculcation of this attitude, students are led to the discovery of their roles as socially conscious architects.
Technology and Management – The subjects under this stream aim to assist the students to discover the role of building technology from a contextual perspective and the appropriateness of the choice of suitable building technology for addressing a design context. To this end, knowledge of processes of construction, required skill sets, properties of materials, construction management and legal codes are required to be explored by the student.
Humanities, History and Research – Herein, the students are encouraged to look at the architectural phenomenon as a socio-cultural product and to discover the processes by which any space gets manipulated or informed by socially constructed notions of existence. The emphasis of the subjects coming under this stream is to understand how readings of space have been specific to a given culture of people, place and time.
Ecology: The exposure through this stream enables the student to appreciate the balance between Nature and Human Development and take appropriate steps in profession. Our various co-academic , co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are all geared towards achieving the vision of the institute and honing the students into a competent, sensitive professional as well as a balance human being.
